Glendon Wood 1st Year Anniversary

We are officially one today!

This time last year, Glendon Wood Hospital opened their doors to the public and welcomed our first list of Cataract patients who were the first of many patients to visit our brand-new state-of-the-art facilities. Over the past year we have grown our services, offering more day case specialties and launching new services such as a Private GP clinic, with our GP Dr James Burden. This service has grown momentum over the last three months and we are seeing growth in onward referral for  imaging diagnostics as well as pathology tests.

It was lovely to meet and greet a number of prospective patients today who were interested in having a tour of the hospital and meeting the clinical teams to discuss future care.  In addition, a number of our primary care colleagues who have continued to support us, came along to visit.

Our out-patient Physiotherapy service, which is now based at Glendon Wood Hospital offers a fantastic rehabilitation gym where we offer shockwave therapy and force plates (amongst other things) to support in the patient’s recovery journey. Aidan Ginns and Conor Seaman provided several visitors with a demonstration of how the force plates can be used to help patients recovery.

Vic Corda, Physiotherapy Team Manager said,

"Our journey over the last 12 months has seen the department grow in reputation and patient activity. We are continuing to expand the services we offer, which to date, include MSK clinics, Shockwave Therapy, Hand Therapy & Splinting, Force Plate Analysis, Joint School & Rehabilitation classes for total hip and knee replacements."

Our Physiotherapy team at Glendon Wood has grown to 15 out-patient staff members, with an emphasis on the team being multi skilled in all treatment modalities. The environment and positive can-do culture at Glendon Wood Hospital, makes it a place that staff want to work, and patients want to return to for their care.

The vision for the next 12 months will be to retain our incredible work force, maintain the high quality of patient care that we deliver and cement our reputation of People Caring for People

The demand of our Diagnostic services at Glendon Wood are increasing and we have a full suite of imaging facilities including static MRI and CT, Mammography, ultrasound, and digital x-ray. The Mammography will be supporting our rapid breast service diagnosis clinic which commences in September.  This will be a clinic for patients who have noticed changes in their breast which is not normal for them.

Helena White, Radiology Manager said,

"A year in the life of Imaging at Glendon Wood has been a pleasure. My experienced staff are working with the latest in diagnostics equipment and in return our patients are receiving the best possible care in a clean and modern environment."

Our short turnaround times from booking to result for MRI, CT, U/S and X-Ray coupled with no concerns for parking make us an ideal option for our patients. All of the above are confirmed by our patient feedback which has consistently been excellent from day one. Comments like ‘best MRI scan I have had’ to ‘don’t change a thing your service is 2nd to none’ are reassuring for a manager as are the constant references to our friendly and happy team.

We will continue to build on this and grow our Imaging services to provide rapid diagnostics to our local community. I am excited to see where we are when we are 2!

To summarise our first year in operation Sarah Bowrey, Hospital Manager reflects on our achievements,

"So much hard work goes into the running of this hospital and it’s very important to take time out, reflect and celebrate all our achievements over the last 12 months. We have successfully grown our services, performed over 5000 day case procedures and have exiting plans for future new service growth.

It’s an absolute pleasure to work with the fabulous people here at Glendon Wood, they really are a very special team."
