Fitzwilliam Hospital’s very own physiotherapist, Ashley Watson, has added another golden achievement to his impressive sporting resume by winning the Commonwealth Classic Bench Press gold medal in Sun City, South Africa. Competing for Team England, Ashley secured the top spot with a remarkable lift of 200kg, earning not only individual gold but also contributing to England’s team victory.
Ashley, who is also the current British bench press champion, describes this as a lifelong dream realised. “It means a lot to me as it is my first international win ever,” he said.
Beyond the bench press, Ashley’s sporting career is nothing short of extraordinary. From representing Jamaica as a bobsleigh brakeman at the Beijing Winter Olympics to dominating the powerlifting scene, his athleticism and dedication are inspiring.
