Glendon Wood Hospital are joining the fight against breast cancer in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They will be launching a rapid access diagnostic Breast Service and will be opening their first clinic on the 30th October. This service is for patients who have noticed a change in the appearance of their breast or who have found a lump. Patients can self-refer and will be seen by a consultant breast surgeon, supported by a specialist breast care nurse and specialist radiologist to ensure any scans required can be performed at the same visit.
In the UK, breast cancer is the most common cancer, with 1 in 8 women diagnosed with it. Survival rates have improved with an increased awareness of symptoms and advances in screening and treatment; this is why it is vital to know the signs to look for and regularly check your breasts.
Sarah Bowrey, Hospital Manager at Glendon Wood Hospital said: ‘We are proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our Consultant led breast care service will ensure patients have prompt access to breast care services should they require them. The service is available for patients who have private medical insurance and who wish to self fund their own treatment."
