Labour MP for Birmingham, Edgbaston, Preet Gill, visited Ramsay UK’s The Westbourne Centre to see first-hand how partnership is working in the local healthcare sector.
Preet was elected to Parliament as an MP in 2017 and is the Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Jonathan Reynolds, Secretary of State for Business and Trade. She previously served as Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Public Health and as Shadow Secretary of State for International Development. Before entering Parliament, she was a social worker and a Councillor. She was born and raised in the West Midlands.
The Westbourne Centre in Birmingham is part of Ramsay Health Care UK, one of the leading independent healthcare providers in England. It is a state-of-the-art private day hospital in the heart of the Edgbaston Medical Quarter and recently celebrated its 15-year anniversary. It brings together a diverse group of clinical specialists who provide the highest quality procedures, treatments and patient experience for private, insured and NHS patients. It specialises in cosmetic surgery, oral and maxillofacial treatment, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, general surgery and dermatology.
During her visit, Preet toured the Centre alongside Hospital Director Harry Wallace and Head of Clinical Services SJ Smallpage. She met with consultants, nurses, and staff to learn more about how they are delivering patient care and supporting the NHS. Preet had the opportunity to explore the Centre's range of facilities, including the operating theatre and newly refurbished dental suites.
She was particularly interested in the oral surgery service, which not only supports local NHS dentistry but also plays a key role in addressing national waiting lists across England. This service highlights how patient choice can help alleviate pressure on the system, though more needs to be done to inform patients about their right to seek treatment with any provider. During the tour, Preet also met several apprentices and students who have been supported by Ramsay UK in advancing their healthcare careers.
Preet Gill MP said:
“Ramsay Health Care UK, who operate The Westbourne Centre in my constituency, do brilliant work delivering healthcare in the community and supporting the NHS.
I was particularly impressed by their oral surgery service, which will support our government's delivery of 700,000 extra urgent dental appointments, part of our commitment to rebuild NHS dentistry.”
Following the visit, The Westbourne Centre Hospital Director, Harry Wallace, said:
“It was a pleasure to host Preet at The Westbourne Centre, she demonstrated a real understanding of local healthcare and the challenges we face. It was very reassuring to hear how she values the contribution we make to patients in the NHS and how she wants to support the NHS and independent sector relationship.”
Ramsay UK partners with the Purpose Coalition to make a valuable social impact to the communities it serves. In 2023, Ramsay UK launched its first Social Impact Report with the Coalition and published a second report in January 2025, showcasing the organisation’s progress.
The Westbourne Centre is a joint venture between Ramsay Health Care UK and the Cosmetic Surgery Partnership. Ramsay Health Care UK is one of the leading providers of independent hospital services in England, with a network of 34 hospitals. These provide a wide and comprehensive range of specialised and efficient clinical specialties from orthopaedics and general surgery to cardiac surgery and eye surgery.
