Springfield Hospital is a 64 bedded hospital. All patient rooms have en-suite bathroom facilities. We also have twin bedded rooms offering ideal accommodation for parents and children or co-dependent relatives. Patients are looked after by trained nurses who are supported by healthcare assistants.
Springfield has close associations with Anglia Ruskin University and actively supports student nurse training through the provision of appropriately trained mentors.
All patients must be admitted under the care of a Consultant. A Resident Medical Officer is available to provide on site medical support, 24 hours a day.
We have a Ward Manager, Sisters and Senior Staff nurses to lead the nurse team. In addition we have Nurse Specialists for Oncology /Chemotherapy: Plastic surgery: Orthopaedics: Breast Care and Urology. The Hospital acquired infection rate nationally (all infections) is 9% (National Audit Office). However at Springfield this figure is 0.2%
Although we very rarely have patients who develop MRSA at Springfield, we do have patients that have been transferred from another Hospital or Nursing homes who are positive MRSA. These patients are isolated until they are free of infection.
All patients undergoing major surgery are screened at our Pre-Admission clinic for MRSA. If a patient is transferred in from another hospital, the patient will be MRSA swabbed and barrier nursed until we have clear results. All of our staff are trained to understand the importance of hand washing when dealing with patients.
Close Observation Unit (COU)
Springfield Hospital can provide Critical Care facilities up to level 2. All beds are fully equipped for cardiac and invasive monitoring including central venous pressure and blood pressure monitoring. All beds are fully equipped with an oxygen supply. Senior nursing staffs are qualified in Critical Care and we have a critical care lead nursing sister.
