Tees Valley Hospital Welcomes Local Mayor, Ben Houchen to see Partnership Working to Provide Fast High Quality Healthcare to Local People

Mayor for Tees Valley, Ben Houchen, recently visited Ramsay Health Care UK’s Tees Valley Hospital to see first-hand the exceptional work being done to provide patients with faster, high-quality care at no extra cost to the NHS.

Tees Valley Hospital plays a crucial role in offering alternative care options for patients in Teesside, Darlington, and Hartlepool. 90% of the hospital’s activity is provided to patients referred through the NHS, with treatments funded in exactly the same way as at other NHS hospitals and at no additional cost. This collaborative approach helps reduce NHS waiting lists and ensures timely access to vital treatments for local residents.

During the visit, Ben met with the senior team at the hospital and was able to observe the positive impact of their work. "It was fantastic to visit Tees Valley Hospital and see the incredible care they’re providing to patients across Teesside, Darlington, and Hartlepool.” said Ben Houchen, Tees Valley Mayor, "Facilities like this not only give patients faster access to treatments but also - at no further cost to the NHS - help reduce waiting lists and demonstrate how giving people real choice in their healthcare can transform outcomes."

I’m proud to support the amazing work being done here and look forward to seeing their continued impact in reducing NHS waiting lists and improving lives in our region."

Tees Valley Hospital’s role as a local healthcare provider and commitment to its patients demonstrates how it serves as part of the solution to the challenges faced by the healthcare system.

Opened in February 2018, on the Acklam Hall site, the hospital provides elective care in Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Endoscopy, Urology, Gynaecology and Oral Surgery with facilities including outpatient and physiotherapy departments, inpatient and day case wards, 3 theatres, an endoscopy suite and a diagnostic imaging facility including state of the art MRI.

In the next twelve months work will commence to expand the size of the hospital adding an additional theatre and increasing capacity in ward, day care and outpatient areas. This represents investment of £7.5million by Ramsay Health Care UK, directly contributing to the healthcare facilities available to residents in the area.

Following the visit, Tees Valley Hospital Director Donna Thornton said:

“We extend our gratitude to Ben for highlighting the exceptional work that Tees Valley Hospital provides in collaboration with NHS providers to deliver outstanding care to all our patients and support them throughout their healthcare journey. At Tees Valley, we are committed to offering greater autonomy in patients' healthcare choices. Ben’s visit serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of empowering patients and reinforcing their right to choose.”
