Ramsay Health Care UK is a Designated Body for GMC Revalidation for Medical Practitioners who hold Practising Privileges at a Ramsay facility and work independently without NHS employment, or Medical Practitioners employed by Ramsay who have no NHS employment.
Medical revalidation is the process by which the General Medical Council (GMC) confirms the continuation of a doctor’s licence to practise in the UK. All doctors who wish to retain their licence to practise need to participate in revalidation.
The purpose of revalidation is to provide greater assurance to patients and the public, employers and other healthcare professionals that licensed doctors are up-to-date and fit to practise. It is a key component of a range of measures designed to improve the quality of care for patients.
Ramsay has an online system available for all doctors who relate to Ramsay for appraisal and revalidation. There are also systems in place to support each doctor through the process of annual appraisal and revalidation every 5 years.
Ramsay’s Responsible Officer (RO) is Mr. Ron Hoile. The RO is required to provide the following duties which are integral to three core components of quality: Patient safety, effectiveness of care & the patient experience.

As the Responsible Officer, Mr Hoile acts in accordance with the requirements of the Medical Professional Regulations and the relevant guidance issued by the GMC and NHS England.
In line with GMC regulations, all Doctors must provide an annual appraisal to their place (s) of work. Ramsay has a panel of trained appraisers and is able to provide appraisal services to Doctors who do not hold a NHS post, the RO will nominate the appraiser for a doctor.
Ramsay uses an online system called PReP provided by Premier IT. This is available to doctors once they have confirmed with the GMC their connection with Ramsay. The system supports the annual appraisal process for doctors. There is also an online patient and colleague 360 feedback platform directly linked to the PReP system.
There is a cost involved for appraisal & revalidation services with Ramsay. Further details can be provided from the Revalidation team.
