Dr Lakhdar qualified in 1976 in Libya, did a master degree at Glasgow University in Clinical Pharmacology and postgraduate training in General (internal) Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrinology at Glasgow Hospitals.

Dr Lakhdar was appointed as a consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology at The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Preston in 1996. In 2004 he moved to Whipps Cross University Hospital, London where he is Clinical Lead in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Dr Lakhdar has an active research programme in diabetes newer therapies, diabetes complications and obesity.
