Dr Allister Dow is a Pain Management Consultant at Ashtead Hospital in Surrey
Dr Allister Dow practices multidisciplinary pain management. He treats all forms of acute and chronic pain. He has particular interest and expertise in the following conditions: back pain, neck pain, nerve (neuropathic) pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), cancer pain, abdominal pain syndromes, pelvic pain and trochanteric bursitis. He is a specialist in interventional pain management/injection therapies for pain including image-guided spinal injection therapies, radiofrequency denervation and pulsed radiofrequency techniques. Dr Dow is a Consultant in Pain Medicine at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. He has been involved in international research in both anaesthesia and pain medicine and has numerous publications to his name. Until 2011 Dr Dow was a serving officer in the Royal Navy and completed 17 years of service. He has served around the world on surface ships and also has deployed to Iraq providing medical support to our servicemen and women. Dr Dow regularly gives talks and educational workshops to GP's and other medical audiences speaking in particular about modern approaches to multidisciplinary pain management and interventional pain procedures. Dr Dow trained in medicine at the University of Birmingham where he qualified as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1996. He went on to train at the Wessex School of Anaesthesia, gaining accreditation as consultant anaesthetist in 2008. During this time he trained as a specialist in pain management at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and at Southampton University Hospitals. In addition he worked for one year in Vancouver, Canada, specialising in Neuroanaesthesia.
