Dr Asif Mahmood is a Consultant Gastroenterologist in Surrey
Dr Mahmood provides a clinical service that encompasses all aspects of Gastroenterology including: Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Video Capsule Endoscopy, Acid related disorders, Functional gut disorders, Acute and chronic liver disease, Clinical nutrition, Viral hepatitis, Pancreatobiliary disorders.
Dr Mahmood undertakes both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the GI tract including polypectomy, EMR, dilation of strictures, upper and lower GI luminal stent insertion, variceal band ligation and photo-coagulation. He is also fully trained in therapeutic ERCP.

Dr Mahmood graduated from the University of Leicester Medical School. He gained postgraduate experience in a number of London teaching hospitals including St George's and Hammersmith Hospitals. His sub specialty training was in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
He was awarded the higher MD degree at Hammersmith Hospital for his research which focused on mechnanisms of gut repair following injury, such as in Inflammatory Bowel Disease or following the use of non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
He has published several original papers in peer reviewed journals and presented several original abstracts in international meetings.He has been awarded the Kingston Trust Research Award, research grants from DDF (Digestive Diseases Foundation) as well as the research award from the European Gastroenterology Foundation for the best abstract.
Dr Mahmood currently holds a position as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Epsom & St Helier NHS Hospitals and is also the Clinical Lead in Gastroenterology. He has extensive experience in all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology as well as Endoscopy. He is also the training Lead for Endoscopy trainees.
