Dr David Lindsay has 28 years’ experience as consultant cardiologist and has had a broad training and experience from working across the whole range of clinical cardiology.
He is the most senior of the 13 consultant cardiologists in-county.
His NHS practice is at Gloucestershire Royal, Cheltenham General, Stroud and Tetbury hospitals. He was appointed in 1994 as the first modern cardiologist in West Gloucestershire and is the senior cardiologist for a first-rate cardiology service serving a county population of around 7000,000. Dr Lindsay also holds private consultations at Ramsay Winfield Hospital, Gloucester and Tetbury Hospital.
Dr Lindsay's MD thesis studied various aspects of heart failure and he is a keen proponent of clinical trial data. He has particular interests in the primary/secondary prevention (risk factor management) and treatment of coronary heart disease, valvular, 'funny turns' and palpitations. He has a particular experience in medicine related to scuba diving and the management of 'holes in the heart'.
He is the only cardiologist in Gloucestershire with a specialty interest in Adult Congenital Heart Disease and he conducts a regular NHS clinic with an ACHD consultant from Bristol.
Dr Lindsay qualified in 1983 from Cambridge, then Oxford University and undertook his cardiology training at the National Heart and Royal Brompton Hospitals, London. He currently runs the local joint Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) clinic and has had involvement on local and national committees establishing guidelines for the management of hyperlipidemia, angina, and heart failure.
