Dr Jenkins qualified from the School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1990. He gained his certificate of specialist training in respiratory and general (internal) medicine in 2001, prior to his post as a locum consultant. During this time, Dr Jenkins gained experience of post-take ward rounds, managing outpatient clinics, supervising and appraising junior staff and service development. He holds several years' training in respiratory medicine, including three years in general hospitals involving ward rounds, outpatient clinics, bronchoscopy, x-ray meetings and ward referrals. Dr Jenkins has gained experience in all aspects of lung cancer care including diagnosis, liaison with surgeons and radiotherapists, prescription and supervision of chemotherapy, and palliative care. He has been trained in non-invasive ventilation in both acute and chronic settings. During his research period, Dr Jenkins gained considerable experience in clinical management of allergic disease; writing papers on various topics including the effects of atmospheric air pollution on asthma.
