Academic Background

I am a Consultant Dermatologist for Dermatology Services for South Essex, based at the Arthur Rook Centre for Dermatology, Basildon Hospital. I also work at Barts Health NHS Trust as a Senior Lecturer in Dermatopathology. I started my specialist dermatology training at Shiraz University, Iran in 1990 and completed at The Royal Free Hospital, London in 1998. I also trained at St John's Dermatology Centre, St Thomas' Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and The Royal London Hospital.

My main sub-specialist interest is skin pathology for which I qualified in 1996 becoming a Diplomat of The Royal College of Pathology. My training and experience in Dermatology, Dermatological surgery and Dermatopathology have enabled me to provide a comprehensive service to my patients with any form of skin disease.

My work involves clinical and microscopic diagnosis and management of all forms of skin complaints particularly different forms of skin cancer which is my main special interest. I particularly enjoy teaching and training and contribute to both post and undergraduate training in Medicine, Dermatology and Dermatopathology in Essex and at the Barts and London Trust.

Since my appointment in 1998 I have led transformation of the Basildon Unit to a training centre for Dermatology which aspires to become a Centre of Clinical Excellence in Dermatology for the area. I have access to all up to date medical and surgical means necessary for treatment of all skin diseases including inflammatory dermatoses, skin cancers and pre cancerous skin conditions. Apart from the standard surgical techniques and cryotherapy, I offer photodynamic therapy which is a fairly recently developed modality for treatment of precancerous skin lesions and superficial skin cancers. This non surgical technique is extremely helpful in treating large, multiple and superficial skin lesions avoiding extensive surgery and with excellent cosmetic outcome. I offer a full mole check service not only to those who seek it but also to all my patients who see me for any reason.

The emotional aspect of suffering with any form of skin disease and the fear associated with the possibility of a diagnosis of cancer, combined with the element of unknown that is associated with any medical problem makes seeking medical advice a rather uncomfortable prospect for most people. My aim is to provide comprehensive and up to date information for all my patients, take them through whatever diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are necessary and help them physically and emotionally until they are back to full health and ready to face the world. I ask my patients to bring their worries and concerns to my clinic so that these can stay with me and my patient can leave without them.”
