He was awarded a prestigious research training fellowship from the British Digestive Foundation for research in the cell biology of liver fibrosis leading to a Doctorate of Medicine (DM)in 1997 and was elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2002.
He holds membership and has served on national training committees for the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), the British Association of Studies of the Liver (BASL) and has served on council for the Pancreatic Society of GB & Ireland. He has successfully led the national benchmarking of excellence by JAG accreditation at New Hall Hospital's endoscopy unit, which features Small Bowel wireless capsule endoscopy, a service not provided elsewhere in Salisbury.
Dr Vyas has 23 years experience in the UK as a specialist accredited consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist having trained in the UK, Canada and Australia. He is an experienced trainer in all forms of diagnostic and therapeutic upper (gastroscopy) and lower GI endoscopy (colonoscopy) as well as ERCP for the management of hepato-biliary or pancreatic disease. GI conditions can manifest with symptoms such as indigestion, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, acid reflux, diarrhoea, leading to malabsorption and weight loss. Through detailed history taking, examination and investigations an experienced specialist can diagnose and treat patients with a spectrum of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) including, Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease and Coeliac Disease.
He also diagnoses patients with peptic ulceration or cancers within the entire alimentary system including the oesophagus, stomach, liver and pancreas. He has a special interest in liver disease and preventing cancers in the oesophagus, stomach and colon, through screening targeted populations at higher risk and for colonic polyps in the general population. He was the lead Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist in the Bath Swindon Wiltshire area from 2009-2019.
