Dr Walton is a Consultant Rheumatologist in Essex, Oaks Hospital his clinical interests are soft tissue rheumatology and rheumatoid arthritis.

Dr Walton is a member of the British Medical Association, the British Society of Rheumatology and the Royal College of Physicians.
Dr Walton trained in general medicine and rheumatology at St Thomas', Guy's and Kings College in London. Previous training appointments as a junior doctor included the Royal Free, Portsmouth , Brighton , Bromley , Lewisham and Tunbridge Wells.
His published work includes the management of frozen shoulder, gout, infectious arthritis, connective tissue disease, Ehlers Danlos syndrome, and rheumatoid arthritis.
He has recently completed a book chapter on the diagnosis of joint symptoms in collaboration with the rheumatology department in Mount Sinai, New York and has appeared as an advisor in the Daily Mail online.
Dr Walton has extensive experience having been a consultant rheumatologist for over 20 years. Dr Walton has been the Royal College Tutor for Colchester with responsibility for the education of junior doctors and has been the Chair of the Local Negotiating Committee at ESNEFT for 9 years. He is the Undergraduate Tutor for rheumatology at Colchester and is a postgraduate supervisor for the 3 trainee doctors in the department. Dr Walton is the lead consultant for paediatric rheumatology at Colchester but does not see children privately.
In his time in post he has chaired the prescribing standards committee responsible for safe prescription and has developed pathways for the management of gout and fibromyalgia.
