Miss McGuiness studied at King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating in 1990 with her medical degree from the University of London. She became determined to become a plastic surgeon whilst visiting East Grinstead as a student and was fascinated by the World War II airmen and the physical and mental journey required for their recovery. Her training in Plastics took her to Aberdeen and Leicester, culminating in Leeds when she gained her FRCS (Plast). There she gained her skills in microsurgery, children and adult hands, limb and breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery. She moved to Salisbury becoming a fully-fledged Consultant Plastic Surgeon in 2006. She has taught and examined juniors, mentored consultant colleagues and published in plastic surgery journals as a consultant.
