I have developed special interests in complex spinal surgery, endoscopic pituitary surgery and surgery for trigeminal neuralgia. I love technology and innovations. I have successfully piloted telemedicine clinics and transfer of scans over mobile phones. I would like to use new web conferencing facilities to enhance the communication between primary and secondary care or even with patients.

I qualified (MBBS) in 1986 and trained as a general surgeon obtaining MS and DNB qualifications. I obtained a Fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) Edinburgh in 1994. Intricacy and challenges of neurosurgery really fascinated me so I started my training in neurosurgery. I was trained at Leeds, London, Manchester and Liverpool before taking a Consultant post at Preston.
I obtained my neurosurgical fellowship (FRCS SN) in 1999. I have a strong interest in research and obtained my MD from Manchester University in 2006. I started a research programme in collaboration with the University of Central Lancashire on brain tumours, which now has an established research fellowship.
