Mr Sutton studied Medicine at the University of Wales College of Medicine and qualified in 1993. After undertaking his junior surgical training in South Wales, he moved to Leicester and completed both his senior surgical training and a higher degree in cancer research. His interests and expertise are weight loss surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery and hernia repairs - both laparoscopic and open- end endoscopy, in addition to minor surgical procedures. To further these skills, he spent a year gaining specialist experience in Upper Gastrointestinal and Obesity Surgery in the University Hospitals of Leeds under the supervision of international experts in these fields. He gained expertise in laparoscopic gastric cancer surgery during his time in Leeds and by visiting the Cancer Institute Hospital of the Japanese Foundation For Cancer Research in Tokyo. Mr Sutton has a special clinical interest in the treatment of Reflux Disease and formed part of the inaugural UK Reflux Interest Group. He implanted the first The LINX ® System device in the East Midlands and the first Endostim device in the UK, both of these new procedures to treat Reflux. He performed the first UK Stretta procedure for post obesity surgery Reflux. He was awarded the first British Obesity Surgical Society Bariatric Surgical Fellowship in the UK and holds a certificate in Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery from the European School of Laparoscopic Surgery in Brussels. He performed the Uks first endoscopic obesity procedure using the Overstitch device. He teaches nationally and internationally on Obesity surgery General Medical Council Number: C4014397
