Mr Mitchell was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in August 2012 where he currently practices. On average he performs 30 major elective bowel resections per year and is both the colorectal and general surgery lead clinician.
Mr David Mitchell is originally from Aberdeen and trained at the University of Edinburgh where he also completed his early years of practice. He has been fortunate to train in centres of excellence throughout the UK including Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge and his registrar training at John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford. His Fellowship was at the internationally regarded Peritoneal Malignancy Unit in Basingstoke.
His training has allowed him to hold the position of Affiliated Assistant Professor at the University of Cambridge and Surgical Tutor at the University of Oxford where he also was awarded a higher education teaching Diploma. The teaching and training of future generations of doctors and surgeons is of great importance to him.
