Mr James Powles is a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Torquay, Devon
Mr Powles has worked as a Consultant at Torbay Hospital since 2007. He has been Clinical Lead for ENT at Torbay since 2015 He specialises in all aspects of ENT particularly Otology (ears) and Rhinology (noses).
During his training he also gained considerable experience of benign Head and Neck surgery, in particular thyroid, the diagnosis of malignant disease and in specialist snoring and voice assessment and treatment.
He has an interest in training being voted President of the ENT national trainee body (the Association of Otolaryngologists in Training) for two years and was a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee for ENT (national committee with an overview of training in England) and the ENT-UK (the ENT national body) committee. He has been Training Programme Director (in charge of training) for both ENT Specialty Trainees (Senior Trainees) in the region & Foundation Doctors (junior doctors) at Torbay. He was also President of YCOHNS (Young Consultant Otolaryngologists & Head & Neck Surgeons) representing all consultants in the UK within 10 years of appointment 2011-14.

Qualified from St Bart's and undertook his basic training in Bristol, Exeter, Oxford and the Royal Marsden in London. His senior specialist training was again in London including 2 years on the Professorial Unit at the Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital (with a year with each of the Professors of Otology & Rhinology), Charing Cross, St Mary's & the Royal Free Hospitals.
