After qualifying, Mr. Safdar Rao completed basic surgical training in West Midlands and Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery. Following his membership examinations in surgery (MRCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Mr. Safdar Rao started his specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in East of England.
After his membership examination in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MRCOG) from Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (RCOG), he obtained the RCOG ATSM certificate in Benign Open and Laparoscopic surgery. Later in his training, he wanted to pursue advanced training for endometriosis therefore successfully secured the place for highly competitive RCOG Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery for excision of benign disease which is the qualification offered by RCOG for specialising in Endometriosis. This gave him the opportunity to enhance his laparoscopic and minimal access skills by working in multi-disciplinary setting with endometriosis, colorectal, urology and pain teams.
After extensive training, Mr. Safdar Rao obtained the certificate of completion. Mr. Safdar Rao has gained wide experience in gynaecological surgery particularly endometriosis including laparoscopic and open abdominal surgeries for other gynaecological conditions. He has special interest in endometriosis, minimal access surgery like robotic and laparoscopic surgery including total hysterectomy (keyhole) by robotic or laparoscopic approach. He also works at Colchester General Hospital which is the BSGE accredited endometriosis centre and as endometriosis consultant provides treatment to tertiary referrals from East of England. He is currently the lead consultant for Benign Complex Gynaecology Surgery at Colchester General Hospital (CGH).
