He took up his current consultant post in Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2006, following working as a Consultant in the Caribbean. His NHS practice has been tailored to looking after patients requiring the highest level of reconstructive expertise. The majority of his current NHS work is with head and neck reconstruction and sarcoma (bone and soft tissue cancers), excision and reconstruction, for which his work is internationally recognised. This level of plastic surgical reconstruction demands a high level of skill and familiarity with operating in all areas of the body.
He takes an active role in the wider world of plastic surgery and education, both locally and nationally. He is currently the lead clinician for the bone and soft tissue tumour service for the north of England, which sees patients referred with rare tumours from across the northern region. He has been training programme director for plastic surgery training in the North-East for a period of 8 years and his contribution to maintaining high standards of training was recognised when he was made Chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee for UK plastic surgery.
He is a regular examiner for the plastic surgery consultant examinations and is in charge of national selection for plastic surgical training in the UK. He was awarded the PLASTA “UK Plastic Surgery Trainer of the Year” award in 2020 and his excellent training has been validated by four of his trainees achieving the Ian Mcgregor (‘Gold’) Medal Winners for excellence in the FRCS Plastic exam over the past six years. Mr Ragbir has published over 60 peer reviewed publications in journals including in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) and Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (JPRAS).
His private practice started in 2006 and he has been providing high quality care for patients with a wide variety of needs. He is known for having a relaxed, caring and friendly nature and is always happy to provide advice and a realistic treatment plan, that has the best interests of his patients at heart.
