Mr Vesely studied Medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. His training in general plastic surgery started in Oxford and continued in London, during which he undertook award-winning research at the Plastic Surgery Department of Mount Vernon Hospital. His specialist training has been at Mount Vernon, Charing Cross and the Royal Marsden Hospitals.
He has completed prestigious fellowships in both cancer reconstruction in Toronto, Canada and in aesthetic surgery at the Wellington Hospital, London. In addition, he has gained further sub-specialist experience in these fields at a number of European and North American institutions. He continues to develop his expertise in the areas of cancer reconstruction and aesthetic surgery.
He is one of the senior consultants at St. George's Hospital NHS Trust in London, having been appointed in 2005, and has previously been departmental lead, as well as providing a local service at Ashford and St. Peter's NHS Hospital in Surrey. He has also previously been President of the Plastic Surgery section of the Royal Society of Medicine and continues to be an examiner for the final training exam in plastic surgery (FRCS(Plast)). He is a reviewer for a number of plastic surgery journals and also acts as a medicolegal expert witness in cases of medical negligence.
He is a core member of MDTs in head and neck cancer, skin cancer, breast reconstruction and trauma. His practice in the NHS is focussed on complex microsurgical reconstruction and head and neck plastic surgery. He regularly receives patients for opinion with advanced head and neck skin cancers and with difficult breast reconstruction problems.
Privately, the main focus of his work involves both local anaesthetic procedures, including surgery for skin cancers and other troublesome lesions, and general anaesthetic procedures, including surgery to correct physical features and changes associated with age or weight loss.
