Clinical interests
Mr Buxton has an interest in all aspects of Neurosurgery but in particular treatment of hydrocephalus, chiari malformations, syringomyelia, congenital abnormalities of the spine, degenerative abnormalities of the spine and some peripheral nerve problems. He has been lead for treatment of hydrocephalus at The Walton Centre and he is one of the team that carries out complex surgery for chiari malformations and syringomyelia. He has been a Consultant Neurosurgeon since 2001 in Liverpool and during this time has helped develop spinal services, syringomyelia services and hydrocephalus treatment services.

He is a member of the Cited British Neurological Surgeons in the UK and he is a member of the American Association of Neurological Neurosurgeons and Urospine.
Academic Background
Qualifying in 1989 from Leeds University Mr Buxton went on to do neurosurgical training in Leeds , Stoke on Trent and Nottingham and he has had also extensive orthopaedic spinal training as part of his overall certifications in Stoke on Trent and Nottingham as well. He has got over 130 publications (h-index 27 with over 2400 citations) and has continued to work in research and is currently the Principal Investigator at The Walton Centre for the FORVAD study. Mr Buxton worked at Alder Hey Hospital as a Paediatric Neurosurgeon until 2013 and was also Clinical Director of Neurosciences and Head & Neck Surgical Services at Alder Hey prior to him leaving in 2013 to concentrate on adult services. He also has extensive research and experience with paediatric neurosurgical problems.
