His Higher Surgical training was at the North Trent Higher Surgical Training with rotations at the Sheffield University Teaching Hospital, Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Rotherham General Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby.
He studied medical research at the University of Sheffield's School of Health Related Research (ScHARR) in 2005.
