Mr Paul Ainsworth qualified from Leeds University in 1998. He has undertaken extensive training in general and colorectal surgery in the Mersey Deanery. He obtained FRCSGlasg(Gen Surg) in 2012 and has completed his Certificate of Completion of Training in General Surgery in 2014. He has also completed a fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Shrewsbury. He has attended laparoscopic training courses in the UK and Germany. Mr Ainsworth has published articles in Colorectal Disease, European Journal of Cancer, European Journal of Surgical Oncology and the Annals of Vascular Surgery. Mr Ainsworth served as the Clinical Director for Surgery at his NHS base in Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust for 6 years. During this period he oversaw many service improvements.
He is interested in clinical audit and clinical improvement strategies and has acted as the surgical lead for the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit. Mr Ainsworth is a GMC recognised educational supervisor and takes a keen interest in training the next generation of surgeons.
