Academic Background

Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, Philip Davey obtained his basic medical degree in Scotland before returning to the North-East of England for almost the entirety of his post-graduate training. His specialist open vascular surgical training was completed at the Freeman Hospital prior to taking up a sponsored, dedicated endovascular training fellowship in Perth, Western Australia. He subsequently became one of the first ‘dual-trained’ (both open surgery & X-Ray based) Consultant Surgeons in the UK in 2010.

Appointed originally as a Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon within the County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, he later played a central role in the regional re-organisation of NE Vascular Services in 2019. He is now Clinical Director for South of Tyne & Wearside Vascular services, centred in Sunderland.

His main interest regards the minimally invasive treatment of vascular disease and has developed an extremely popular and busy seamless service. At the Ramsay Cobalt hospital, he offers full clinical assessment, scanning and contemporary treatments/surgery for varicose veins and venous disease (including Radio-Frequency Ablation ‘ClosureFast™’). Most procedures can be performed on an ambulatory basis under local anaesthetic, supporting an early return to normal activity.

He lives locally in Tynemouth and is married with three children and enjoys reading, travel and foreign languages. He cycles on a regular basis and enjoys going on long walks with his two tireless working Cocker Spaniels.
