Mr Raj Thakrar is a Consultant Knee and Trauma Orthopaedic Surgeon in Hertfordshire

Mr Thakrar is a double-fellowship trained specialist Consultant Knee and Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon based across the Hertfordshire and London regions. His practise delivers a comprehensive adult and paediatric knee service, integrating clinical expertise and patient values with latest innovative evidence based technologies to deliver the highest quality of care to his patients. He graduated from University College London Medical School in 2006 with a First Class Honours BSc in Physiology and Pharmacology and a Merit award in his MBBS degree. After completion of specialty training in the West Midlands in 2017, Mr Thakrar undertook subspecialty knee fellowship training at the prestigious Academic Lower limb Reconstruction Unit at University College London Hospital and the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health under the auspices of one of the highest volume arthroplasty and sports knee surgeons in the country. Following this, he went on to complete his second fellowship, focussing on periarticular knee osteotomy surgery and knee ligament reconstruction surgery at the internationally renowned Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. Mr Thakrar's NHS practise is based at The Lister Hospital where he treats all aspects of adult and paediatric knee pathology together with general trauma conditions. His specific interests are centred around the management of young adult knee conditions to include realignment osteotomy surgery, arthroscopic knee ligament reconstruction and cartilage surgery and unicompartmental, primary and complex knee arthroplasty surgery. Throughout his career, Mr Thakrar's has been committed to medical research and practising evidence-based medicine. He has been awarded multiple research grants, published multiple papers in peer reviewed journals, authored book chapters and presented at regional, national and international scientific meetings. He continues to contribute to scientific research and is currently a reviewer for a number of orthopaedic journals to include The Bone and Joint Journal. He is passionate about and has a broad experience of teaching and training ranging from undergraduate level to international lectures. He is invited faculty on the International Basingstoke Osteotomy Masterclass together with the Royal College of Surgeons of England CCrISP Course.
