Mr Robert Lofthouse is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Torquay, Devon who specialises in hip and knee surgery.
Mr Lofthouse moved to Torquay in 2002 and took up his post as Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Torbay Hospital. He specialises in total hip and knee replacement surgery, including primary, complex and revision operations and surgery for fractures around existing replacements. Mr Lofthouse also specialises in hip conditions in teenagers and younger adults such as hip impingement, and performs keyhole surgery on the hip and knee, as well as doing Birmingham hip resurfacing and modern ceramic joints which are perhaps more suited to this younger population. Mr Lofthouse is active in bringing innovations such as computer-aided surgery and patient-specific joint replacements to local hospitals, but also finds time to make annual trips to Kenya where he leads an Orthopaedic mission from Torbay.
MA, MBB Chir(Cantab), FRCS(Eng) & FRCS(Tr & Orth)
Robert Lofthouse is originally from the North of England, but trained as a doctor in the South East. He gained a degree in Medical Sciences at Cambridge University, where he also flew in the University Air Squadron, played University Rugby, and was awarded a Cambridge Blue for Boxing! This made a career in Orthopaedic Surgery a natural choice, and Mr Lofthouse then moved to London where he qualified as a doctor at St Thomas's Hospital in 1990.
