Mr. Shaheel Chummun is a plastic surgeon based in Bristol. He graduated in 2001 from medical school to embark upon his surgical training. In 2006, he became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) of England and Edinburgh. Having completed his core surgical training in surgery, he undertook his specialist training in Plastic Surgery both in the UK and abroad – Edinburgh, Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Leeds, Adelaide (Australia) and London. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery, FRCS(Plast), in 2014, and entered the GMC Specialist Register for plastic surgery in 2016. He gained further super specialist training in Craniofacial Surgery at the world renowned Australian Craniofacial Unit in Adelaide, Australia, and in Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery at Guys' and St Thomas' Hospital, London. During his time in Australia, he completed his Masters in Advanced Surgery in Craniofacial Surgery from Macquarie University, Sydney. He was awarded the Ethics prize for his thesis on advocating for patients' safety and rights in surgery. Mr. Chummun undertook 2 aesthetic fellowships to fine tune his expertise in aesthetic surgery. The first one was at the famous London Clinic, and the second at The Cadogan Clinic, Chelsea, as the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (BAAPS)/ ScarFree Foundation Aesthetic fellow. Mr. Chummun has published over 40 scientific articles within the Plastic Surgery literature throughout his career and regularly presents at national and international plastic surgery conferences. He is also actively involved in teaching both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Mr. Chummun was appointed as a Cleft and Plastic Surgery consultant at the South West Cleft Services, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Trust in 2017. He is a core member of the cleft multidisciplinary team and manages patients with cleft lip and palate from the whole of the South West of England. He is the only plastic surgeon in the South West of England who undertakes complex cleft rhinoplasties in his NHS practice.
