Mr Tanweer Ashraf is a Consultant Knee Surgeon specialising in cartilage and ligament surgery of the knee as well as surgeries for arthritis. He is considered the regional expert on knee cap related problems.
Mr Ashraf specialises in Arthroscopy, ACL Reconstruction, Cartilage Transplant, Patella Stabilisation, Partial(uni-compartmental) knee replacements, Patello-femoral replacement and total knee replacements.

He was appointed as an NHS consultant to The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham in 2004. Both of these are super specialist tertiary referral hospitals. Mr Ashraf provides a direct referral and tertiary referral service at these NHS hospitals. Similarly, he provides personalised expert care at the private hospitals.
Mr Ashraf works on the principal of establishing a detailed diagnosis before commencing a treatment that is best suited for the patient. With this in mind, he works with a team of specialist Physiotherapists, Radiologists and Orthotists.
He is the founder member of the British Patellofemoral Society and the organiser for the Patellofemoral Masterclass. The latter is an international course for training specialist Orthopaedic knee surgeons. He is also the organiser of the Regional Patella (Knee Cap) Multidisciplinary Clinic to deal with patients with complex knee cap related problems.
Mr Ashraf offers repair and reconstruction of the ACL and other ligaments of the knee; repair and replacement of the meniscus; knee alignment correction (osteotomy); partial and total knee replacement; cartilage implantation with cartilage cells grown in a laboratory; and surgery that involves stabilizing the knee cap. Working closely with other experts in France and Germany, he has developed corrective surgery for stabilizing the Patella.
He is an educational supervisor for trainee doctors as well as a trainer and mentor of senior fellows before they take up a consultant post. He has a number of research publications to his name and regularly audit’s his work.
