Ms Vijay qualified from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India in 1990 and completed her post-graduation in surgery from Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay in 1993. She arrived in the UK in 1995 and has done her entire basic and specialist surgical training in the North Thames East region, gaining specialist laparoscopic and colorectal skills as a senior registrar at Colchester General and Chase Farm Hospitals.
Since her appointment as a consultant surgeon at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow in 2009 she has obtained a certification in surgical leadership from Harvard University and has held multiple leadership positions including clinical lead for colorectal cancer, clinical lead for colorectal and general surgery and clinical director for surgery, urology and gastroenterology. She is currently the College Tutor for Surgery at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Clinical lead for cancer for West Essex.
