Professor Ofer Levy is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Berkshire Independent Hospital in Reading who specialises in shoulder surgery.
Professor Levy is founder and director of the Reading Shoulder Unit, an international centre of excellence, with both NHS and private wings, based at the Berkshire Independent Hospital. The unit treats patients with all types of disorders of the shoulder and elbow. This worldwide centre of excellence is known for its advanced surgical treatments, teaching, and research. Prof. Levy treats patients locally, nationally and internationally and receives tertiary referrals of complex shoulder cases from other shoulder surgeons from UK and abroad.
The unit is a world centre for shoulder replacement. The shoulder replacements that were developed in the Unit: “the Copeland resurfacing” and “the Verso stemless reverse total shoulder replacement” are leading the way in the development of total shoulder replacement.
Many of the UK shoulder surgeons were trained at the reading shoulder unit and the unit attracts visiting surgeons from around the world that come to learn new surgical techniques.
Treatments include injuries and degenerative shoulder and elbow problems. From young and active patients injured in sports, fractures and dislocations, to arthritis and tendon tears, and Degenerative Shoulder Conditions. Most of the operations performed using minimally invasive and arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, Including Arthroscopic decompression, Arthroscopic AC Joint excision arthroplasty, Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair, arthroscopic stabilisation and other complex Shoulder Reconstructive Surgery.
The unit is a world centre for Total Shoulder Replacement, especially the Copeland and Verso shoulder replacements.

He was the founder and chair of the Orthopaedic Research and Learning Centre in Brunel University, London between 2008 - 2016, served as Associate Professor, The Centre for Sports Medicine and Human Performance, School of Sport and Education - Brunel University, London. Assistant editor, Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Associate editor for Clinics in Shoulder and Elbow, Reviewer for the JBJS, Arthroscopy, British Journal of Sports Medicine, KSSTA, Int. His Teaching and Research Interests: Biomechanics, Kinematics, Surgical Anatomy, Surgical Technologies, Arthroscopic and minimal invasive surgery, Total joint replacement (Shoulders), Musculoskeletal infections, Development of virtual reality arthroscopic simulators.
He and his team under his guidance, were awarded many prizes: in 1999 the SECEC Best paper prize, BESS best poster in 2008, BESS Best technique paper in 2011 and the prestigious Kessel best research award of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Twice, in 2010 and 2017.
