Mr Kosuge developed his passion for Trauma & Orthopaedics as a junior doctor and pursued this by enrolling onto the North-East Thames Percival Pott Orthopaedic Training Programme. His training took him to prestigious centres including The Royal London Hospital, The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. He was inspired by a number of his excellent trainers to focus on the subspecialty of hip and knee joint replacements.

Following completion of specialist training in the United Kingdom, he enrolled onto and successfully completed a one-year fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia under the auspices of Professor Donald Howie. This fellowship allowed Mr Kosuge to refine his skills in hip and knee joint replacements, as well as revision hip replacements. During his orthopaedic training, he was the recipient of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Zimmer Adult Reconstruction Hips and Knees Fellowship in 2014, the AOTrauma Fellowship in 2013 and the Tohoku University Orthopaedic Visiting Fellowship in 2010 – and utilised his time visiting, learning and exchanging ideas with centres of excellence in Japan.

Mr Kosuge's patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) for primary hip and knee replacements was published in 2017 in the British Orthopaedic Association's Journal of Trauma & Orthopaedics (Volume 5 Issue 1). At six months, the health gains of his patients are above national averages for both hip and knee replacements.

Oxford Hip Score – 39.1 with an average gain of 23.6 from pre-operative score (national average gain 21.4*)

Oxford Knee Score – 36.9 with an average gain of 17.8 from pre-operative score (national average gain 16.1*)

Mr Kosuge obtained a Bachelor in Medical Sciences (BMedSci) during his time at The University of Nottingham and completed a laboratory based medical research project which culminated in his first medical publication. He has since maintained his interest in academic writing and has written chapters for several orthopaedic textbooks and published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. Since 2010, he has also been a reviewer for The Bone & Joint Journal which enables him to maintain skills required for the critical analysis of scientific articles and keep up to date with the latest in orthopaedic research.
