Oaklands Hospital adds further capacity to treat more patients

Oaklands Hospital, part of Ramsay Health Care UK, has expanded its capacity with the introduction of 10 additional bedrooms plus treatment rooms and office areas. Building works to add the extra modular build were completed in May 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The building works provided Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust with access to additional capacity to help treat more patients and provide vitally needed care over the last six months under the national contract between the NHS and Independent Sector.

The development includes an extra 10 en-suite bedrooms, additional consulting room facilities and a conference room which in turn enables the hospital to support on site clinical meetings and staff learning. The investment also included the installation of software to support the increase in demand for virtual consultations and this service is now offered to a cohort of our patients.

Oaklands has also expanded its current service provision to include a new weight loss proposition; this has commenced in October and is being led by local Bariatric Consultants.

In late March, Oaklands Hospital and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust partnered together to move the Trust’s Intestinal Failure Unit into Oaklands Hospital, the unit is one of only two prestigious units in the country. The service specialises in the treatment of particularly high risk patients needing urgent specialist care. The intestinal failure team and patients have now returned into the Trust, but the partnership working between the two organisations was and still is a great success.

Karen Pattison, Hospital Director at Oaklands Hospital believes that the additional capacity is crucial in order to continue to meet the high demand for good quality healthcare from the local community. Mrs Pattison said: “The requirement to add further beds into our facility is vitally needed, and supports Oakland’s Hospital clinical reputation to provide high quality care for all our patients.”
