  • Word can’t describe just how good this hospital is, the staff are beyond fantastic and so friendly, the facilities are superb, clean, fresh and well managed. I had my left hip replaced, it took three months from being referred to getting a new full hip. This really has to be the model for future, non emergency surgery scheduled and done on the allotted day. So from me a huge thank you.

  • I had a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy this morning at West Midlands Hospital. Both Stourside (for initial appts and pre op) and WM hospital have made me feel so at ease. They were both immaculate hospitals and WM hospital had the benefit of having my own modern room with privacy and an en-suite. All staff were wonderful but a special mention to Linda from me. Such an amazing Lady who made me feel so at ease and comforted me throughout my tears and anxiety. Even waiting for me after her shift to walk me out 🥹 Thank you both Stourside and West Midlands hospital. I am so grateful for the personable care you provided to me.

  • I had my gallbladder removed yesterday morning at West Midlands Hospital and the care was phenomenal from start to finish. The staff truly go above and beyond for their patients and this ranged from theatre staff, to nurses and the catering team. The whole environment at both Stourside hospital and West Midlands is so efficient, on all three visits I was dealt with promptly with caring and professional staff. The overall experience was incredible, super clean, lovely spacious and modern rooms with privacy and an en-suite. The catering staff kept popping in and bringing drinks and food menus, I felt so well cared for. A special mention to Dr Sahawella, a fantastic surgeon who really explained everything in detail and always with a warm smile. Sabrina my wonderful friend working in recovery and Rob who kept me so calm and relaxed as I was waking up, he even popped up to see me after and check in with me. Jack in theatre you were so kind and chatty I forgot where I was and I had zero nerves whilst being put under. I can honestly say any anxieties will be forgotten when you go for surgery because the staff truly make it a calm and relaxing experience for their patients. I was almost disappointed when I got discharged because I was excited for what felt like an overnight spa break with wonderful food 😂😂

  • I was referred to West Midlands Hospital for two conditions. On both outpatient appointments the Consultants were quite happy for my wife to sign for me as I am deaf, my wife has a degree in British Sign Language and I am used to her signing. My appointment with the first consultant at outpatients suggested I need to go into hospital for a laparoscopy. I was sent an appointment letter asking me to attend the West Midlands Hospital. We arrived on the day at 7.30 as requested and After waiting 90 minutes the receptionist came up to us and said I am sorry, they have said they can't see you as the interpreter has not arrived. My wife explained she would sign for me. The receptionist said she would let the ward know and it would be up to them. After waiting another 20 minutes I said to my wife I am not stopping we are going home. I am a nervous patient anyway and to go through this experience as well was too much. No one from the ward came down to discuss anything. I cancelled my laparoscopy inpatient appointment as I did not feel confident with the hospital at that point I was given information on how to complain and send it to paula sheperd Quality and improvements assistant. We composed a letter of complaint and received a prompt reply stating that it was Ramsay ‘s Corporate policy to use their own interpreters. We requested a meeting with the hospital and met with the hospital director Chris Gendall and the Quality improvement assistant Paula Sheperd This is where things started to improve, it was a very productive meeting as we explained that it was not Ramsay's choice to use their interpreters (as they said it was their corporate policy) but the deaf persons. This is actually laid down in various acts by parliament. The information we supplied was received very well and they apologised for it happening. They had already started to make improvements such as flash cards and portable electronic writing board, which in my experience shows they took the matter seriously. Hopefullty the staff will remain aware of these improvements and be useful for any deaf or hard of hearing patients in the future. Not sure if this has been applied to the Ramsay group of hospitals? After waiting a few months for the appointment for admission to the hospital for my hernia contacted paula and within half an hour got 2 appointments one for preadmission and another for admission date. From then on I did not have any problems whatsoever. When I was admitted my consultant Mr Campradon and all of the staff were so friendly and helpful. My wife signed to me and was with me right up until I went into the operating theatre and the recovery room afterwards. I cannot fault the care I was given at this hospital it is a shame they were not aware of the issues surrounding my disability. The hospital would get a4 star review from me. Had it not been for the above would have got more. I would recommend this hospital.

  • I have just returned home from my second complete hip replacement surgery by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Mr Sujit Agarwal, at the West Midlands Hospital in Halesowen. I cannot speak too highly of my experience on both these occasions. Mr Agarwal is a very understanding gentleman with time and patience to listen and then fully explain all issues relevant to your condition. Whether it was at Mr Agarwal’s consulting room at Stourside or at West Midlands Hospital itself, you will always find Mr Agarwal approachable, kind and understanding. Mr Agarwal has the ability to make what is a painful experience almost a pleasure. As for the full team at West Midlands Hospital, again, it was exemplary. It could not be faulted. Major updates in infrastructure had taken place since my previous hip replacement surgery and the rooms are equal to a good hotel room! With such help, understanding and complete support, recovery for such surgery, and similar, is made so much easier. Now for the exercises to restore full functionality to my leg!
