Investigation of the breathless patient; Angina (chest pain) assessment including coronary angiography; Syncope (blackouts); Pacemaker implantation; Heart failure management; Cardiac resynchronisation therapy; Automatic implantable defibrillators; Preventative cardiology including cardiovascular risk assessment and the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and hyperlipidaemia (high cholesterol).

Dr Smith graduated in Medicine from the University of Leeds and completed his training in General Medicine and Cardiology within the Yorkshire region. He is a former British Heart Foundation Research Fellow and was awarded a PhD in 2003 investigating the role of the nervous system in the development of hypertension and coronary heart disease.He later undertook an International Fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Device Therapy at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. Dr Smith was appointed asConsultant Cardiologist at Bradford Teaching Hospitals in 2007. Since then he has developed local pathways to improve the care of patients with cardiac arrhythmia and is the clinical lead for the pacing service in Bradford. He enjoys teaching is invited faculty on a European pacing course and frequently lectures to primary care audiences on many aspects of heart disease. Current roles include clinical lead for specialist Syncope service and Associate Medical Director with a focus on Clinical Effectiveness and patient safety.
