Miss Sabeen Akhtar is a full time NHS Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with The Northern Care Alliance ( Pennine Acute NHS Trust ), appointed in August 2014. Her elective NHS practice is focused on foot and ankle conditions and encompasses the latest evidence based treatment options, always seeking the best options for every patients and their individual needs. She has successfully treated a number of sports persons at all levels including a World Boxing Association lightweight champion. Miss Akhtar graduated from The University of Manchester Medical School in 2001. She completed her specialist orthopaedic training in the North West region. She undertook her foot and ankle fellowship at the internationally renowned Wrightington Hospital. During her orthopaedic training, she persued her passion in research, undertaking research projects in the area of foot and ankle surgery which have been published in peer reviewed journals. She received prizes for her research at both national and international orthopaedic meetings. Miss Akhtar has a strong passion and interest in medical education. She is a clinical and educational supervisor for junior doctors in training . She has been an honorary senior lecturer for Edge Hill University and is currently a faculty member for a number of courses for surgical trainees. She is the speciality training lead for trauma and orthopaedics at The Royal Oldham and Rochdale Infirmary Hospitals. She has been appointed as Surgical Tutor at Northern Care Alliance ( Pennine Acute Trust) for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Appointed as the Core Surgery Training Program Director for Health Education England North West.
