I grew up on a dairy farm in North Yorkshire. I attended Nottingham Medical School between 1997 and 2002. I undertook my House Job in Nottingham and at The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. In 2004 I relocated back to Yorkshire and undertook my basic surgical training completing the MRCS exams in 2006. I started my Specialist Training in 2007 within the Yorkshire Deanery and rotated through numerous hospitals including Leeds, York, Harrogate, Pinderfields, Hull and Airedale. I completed the Intercollegiate exam in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2012, before gaining my Certificate of Completion of Training in 2013.I knew from early in my training that I wanted to pursue a career in Hand and Wrist surgery. As a result I spent half of my specialist training focusing on the upper limb.Having completed my training programme I wished to gain further expertise and undertook two separate fellowships. The first was at Wrightington Hospital which developed my skills in degenerative joint diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and nerve surgery. I developed skills for joint replacement, nerve surgery and wrist arthroscopy as well as writing several papers on different aspects of Hand Surgery. The second fellowship was at the Queen Elizabeth and Royal Orthopaedic Hospitals in Birmingham. This fellowship cemented my skills that I developed at Wrightington as well as developing further skills in nerve surgery with the use of a microscope and dealing with all aspects of hand trauma within a regional unit. These two fellowships provided me with the skills and knowledge base to start a consultant practice in January 2016 and complete the BSSH Hand Diploma exam. I am keen on improving the skills and knowledge of colleagues and doctors in training. I have written two book chapters helping to develop an appreciation and understanding of hand and wrist conditions. I am on the teaching faculty of several courses and help prepare local trainees for exams and teach local GPs when the opportunity arises.
