Dr David Jones is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Duchy Hospital in Truro, Cornwall
Cataract Surgery
Mr Jones has a full-time contract with the NHS as a consultant cataract surgeon and bring 15 years of that experience to his private practice. He is available to advise patients on the right timing and type of cataract surgery for them. He can offer monofocal, multifocal and toric lens implants under local anaesthetic, sedation or general anaesthesia at the Duchy Hospital. He is recognised as a cataract surgeon by most health insurance companies including BUPA. He also provides a YAG laser service to treat scarring following previous cataract surgery.
Refractive Lens Exchange
If you are aged over 50 years and wish to be less dependent on spectacles you can undergo refractive lens exchange (RLE). This is the same procedure as cataract surgery and you can select a lens implant that suits your needs (distance, multifocal, astigmatism correction, etc). Mr Jones provides a full and personalised pathway for this procedure including careful pre-and post-operative counselling.
Squint Surgery
If you are embarrassed by the way you look because of your squint you may benefit from squint surgery or Botox injections to the eye muscles. “Cosmetic" squint surgery is no longer available on the NHS any more but Mr Jones can provide a full, personalised pathway to straighten your eyes at the Duchy Hospital. He is responsible for all NHS squint surgery in Cornwall, and brings that experience to private patients interested in undergoing surgery. This service is also available for patients suffering with double vision who wish for access to this service quickly.
Headaches And Brain Tumour Assessment
If you have a headache, double vision, unexplained poor vision, or are simply concerned about the possibility of a brain tumour (a very common anxiety) you may benefit from a private neuro-ophthalmological examination. Mr Jones is the clinical lead for the neuro-ophthalmology service in the NHS in Cornwall and see's many hundreds of patients with these symptoms every year. At Duchy Hospital he can offer you accurate visual field testing and an examination of your optic nerves and brain stem, with the option of a prompt brain scan where appropriate. Following such a consultation he can usually provide confident reassurance that there is no serious problem with the brain.
Visual Standards for Driving
He offers professional advice regarding your fitness to drive. You may have been advised to stop driving because of a visual problem. He can clarify your legal status regarding driving, and have in the past successfully intervened to restore patients' driving licenses using the “exceptionality” clause.
