Professor Neil Tan is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon in Truro, Cornwall.
He treats all general ENT conditions including the assessment of patients with recurrent tonsillitis, adenoid problems, snoring, voice and throat problems. He performs coblation tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, snoring surgery including uvulopalatoplasty and direct laryngeal examinations.
He has a sub-specialist interest in conditions of the nose including inflammatory problems (eg sinusitis and intranasal allergy), structural problems (deviated nasal septum and deformity causing nasal obstruction) and sinonasal tumours.
He performs all nasal operations including treatments for nose bleeds, septum-straightening, endoscopic sinus surgery and turbinate surgery.
He is the only person in the South-West to undertake complex frontal sinus surgery including the Modified Endoscopic Lothrop Procedure.

Professor Neil Tan is a dual fellowship trained Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon. He holds an NHS appointment at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and his private practice is at the Duchy Hospital. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Exeter Medical School.
Professor Tan undertook his basic medical training at Guy's, King's and St. Thomas' School of Medicine, London, and included a degree in Radiological Sciences. He completed his higher specialist ENT Training in the East of England region and achieved Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016. He undertook two years of sub-speciality fellowships in Anterior and Lateral Skull Base Surgery in Addenbrookes, Cambridge, and Advanced Rhinology, Endoscopic Skull Base and Lacrimal Surgery in Adelaide, Australia working with world leaders in rhinology and endoscopic sinus surgery.
He has an extensive background in academic rhinology research, having completed a Doctor of Philosophy with Distinction from the University of Adelaide in 2013, where he was awarded a Dean's Commendation for Doctoral Thesis Excellence. He has published extensively in basic sciences and clinical rhinology research, and has given numerous international presentations in the USA, Australia, Europe, and UK.
He is the only UK member of the International Committee of the American Rhinologic Society. He sits on the National Councils of the British Rhinological Society and British Otorhinolaryngology & Allied Sciences Research Society. He is the National Research Lead for the British Rhinologic Society and Regional Peninsular Research Lead for the National Institute of Health Research ENT Clinical Research Network.
Professor Tan has a keen interest in education and training. He was awarded a Master of Education with Distinction from the University of Cambridge and teaches on numerous internationally recognised sinus surgery courses in Australia, Canada, the UK. He convened and led the first UK Frontal Sinus Masterclass dedicated at teaching endoscopic sinus surgery of the frontal sinus.
Out of work, Professor Tan spends most of his free time with his wife and four children, but he has a keen interest in endurance sports, having completed a marathon, half-ironman and numerous triathlons. He also plays hockey for Truro Hockey Club and helps coach the junior teams.
