Learn About our new Body Jet Machine from our Plastic Surgeon, Mrs Rebecca Dunlop

As a Plastic Surgeon focused on achieving the safest and most effective results for my patients, I am very excited that Duchy Hospital has recently purchased the latest edition of the BodyJet Liposuction machine!

I have been using this amazingly effective technique for my liposuction patients for the past 10 years and it has not, in my opinion, been bettered by any other machines on the market, remaining absolutely essential for getting the best possible cosmetic results, in a safe and predictable way. I first trained using BodyJet in Sydney Australia, on a year long Aesthetic Surgery fellowship in a busy inner-city hospital and was really pleased to see how much less destructive this form of liposuction was compared with traditional methods, where tissue damage and bleeding was more common.

For those not familiar with the technology, BodyJet uses a pressurised stream of sterile water and local anaesthetic to gently detach the fat cells from the surrounding connective tissue. The fat is then removed, leaving a smooth, natural result with minimal bruising and swelling. The incision needed is less than 1cm long (unless skin excision is also planned).

Of course, generalised weight loss is best achieved through diet and exercise, but for stubborn fatty deposits or in conjunction with other body contouring procedures such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), liposuction using the BodyJet method gives reliable results with fewer potential complications than more basic techniques or those involving heat generation.

Fat which has been removed using BodyJet liposuction can, if needed, be transferred elsewhere (fat grafting), for example to fill or rejuvenate loose or aged tissues.

BodyJet is also used in my practice for many cases of gynaecomastia (male chest reduction), upper arm lift and thigh lift, as well as for refinement in certain breast reduction patients. Using BodyJet prior to skin excision in lifting procedures protects important nerves and lymphatics and facilitates a tension-free wound closure with less post operative swelling.

It’s great that we now have this device on site at Duchy and I am looking forward to using it for the benefit of my aesthetic surgery patients.
